Privatization is the shifting of government functions into the private sector. Privatization is also the transfer of public assets into private corporations. This started in 1980.

Today there is evidence suggesting that privatization has led to systemic government shutdowns and other negative unintended consequences including serious damage to the industrial base, colleges, universities, air transportation, the FAA, and the citizens of the United States.

Setting Up A Business In Cherry Hill NJ

Course Description

The Internet appears to have taken over our lives in ways most of us never could have imagined. Most of us surf web sites without giving a second thought into what is really required to create a place that people want to visit and perhaps even engage in commerce. "It requires the blending of almost every skill in a modern corporation and includes sales, marketing, advertising, technology, distribution, automation, etc. It is the corporation virtualized." This course will expose the student to every aspect of developing a successful web site, from simple HTML authoring to understanding why visitors are arriving at a site that is successfully listed by search engines. The course will be a blend of lecture using the Internet and hands on lab activities. At home further exploration will be encouraged.

Presenter

Back in 1997 when Walt, his wife and 2 daughters started a web site, he had visions of becoming an Internet bazillionaire. Although he has failed to accomplish his initial goal, he has acquired some knowledge associated with the Internet and attempting to build a successful web presence. He is a webmaster for a small web site that attracts a few thousand visitors per week and is in the black from a financial point of view. It is a model that he has used to study and try to understand the Internet, its technologies, and its potential applications both on and off his real job as a system engineer.

Prerequisites

Participants should be familiar with using a PC and a web browser. Ideally they should have access to and use the Internet at home and or at work. Since the class is hands-on, access to an L-3 CSE PC and UNIX account will be required. This course is very broad, both technical and non-technical folks are encouraged to attend.

Benefits

After taking the course you will be able to:

  1. Establish goals for a web site
  2. Find and use freeware and shareware tools including a PC web server
  3. Become familiar with HTML to whip up web pages (No, this is not a web site!)
  4. Understand the need for and work with SSI, CGI, and PERL
  5. Establish a presence with search engines
  6. Understand the roles of ISPs, web hosting services, and web server software
  7. Track your success
  8. Perhaps even become a bazillionaire!

Objective

The objective of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge to build a web site. This includes establishing the goals of the web site, finding and using the tools, becoming familiar with HTML, working with CGI and PERL, and establishing a presence with search engines.

Class participation will be encouraged and may be required given that some students may have greater knowledge in one or more areas than the instructor.

Class notes will be developed by the students using their lab PC's. They will capture the content in the form of a web site that they develop during the class and present at the conclusion of the class.

Note: The best case scenario would be a hands on lab, but a lecture with access to a PC / projector / Internet connection might be ok.

Instructor Student Needs

  1. Class room
  2. Instructor PC with access to the company internal network
  3. Instructor PC projector
  4. Student PC with access to the company internal network (in class would be ideal, but access via office may be ok)
  5. Student UNIX accounts on company internal network (in class would be ideal, but access via office may be ok)

Student Requirements

  1. Access to PC
  2. Access to UNIX account
  3. If you chose, you can demonstrate your web site which uses HTML, CGI, and PERL at the conclusion of the course (last class)
