Comments: PHL brings in five-to-10 percent of outside air to keep the air fresh throughout the airport and uses an economizer to save energy by allowing more outside air to enter the airport during milder weather. The airport is adopting air cleaning technology known as Bipolar Ionization (BI) within the complex’s air conditioning and heating systems. Global Plasma Solutions (GPS) was selected for the initial phase. As a leading manufacturer of air purification systems, GPS has recently demonstrated the efficacy of its Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization (NBPI) technology in neutralizing COVID-19. GPS conducted a set of tests to determine the efficacy and published: Performance Report: SARS-CoV-2 In-Air and Surface Testing. The report concludes: In an environment employing GPS NPBI technology, active virus in the air was reduced after 15 minutes of exposure in aerosol form, and collectable virus in the air was significantly reduced over the course of 60 minutes. NPBI reduction results were achieved without reliance on or production of harmful ozone. https://www.phl.org/newsroom/HVAC https://www.phl.org/newsroom/air-cleaning. PHL has more than 450 Air Handling Units throughout the airport complex. The first phase of BI technology installation began earlier this year and the next phase is currently being designed.
In the wake of the COVID-19 disaster many are calling for a paradigm shift in how citizens and government officials think about the quality of the air we breathe indoors.
This Clean Air Certificate lets you know that those who operate this building are thinking about the air that we breathe in this building.
They have disclosed the ventilation performance of this building so that we all become educated and we never have another indoor infection disaster again.
