When you select a background color you need to select a contrasting color for your text so that it will appear on black and white terminals. The following colors were tested on a black an white monitor and appear to fit the bill:
Black Background: white, yellow, gray, lime aqua, silver
Light Background: black, red, green, blue, maroon, olive, navy, purple, fuschia
