Lights Out For The Planet

Welcome to our crowd sourced Lights Out For The Planet.

Lighting makes up 17% of all electricity consumed in U.S. commercial buildings. While many facilities have occupant detectors to turn off lights there are many more facilities that use a room or space lighting On / Off switch. Getting people to turn lights on and off as they enter and leave a room is a challenge. The Lights Out For The Planet is a system that anyone can implement to encourage students, staff, and building occupants to turn those lights off by collecting data and then offering the data to everyone so that they can see their impact on the planet.

Every time you open a room, close a room, or visit a room take this quick survey. This allows staff to maintain a high quality room experience that minimizes carbon footprint lighting. The facilities staff reviews this data and feeds it into the carbon footprint database so that they can minimize the lighting carbon footprint. This is precious carbon footprint that is needed for healthy ventilation. Organizations can offer monthly competitions and prizes to see who is doing a better job of helping the planet by minimizing the lighting carbon footprints. But first the data is needed. This is an outgrowth of SVARS.
